About the work
"Steed" is an original small-scale sculpture, in which a distinctive interpretation of form raises questions of identity, wholeness and a stoic bearing.
History
Does wholeness require perfection?
"Steed" invites us to rethink the familiar idea of wholeness. What seems unfinished is not necessarily lacking. The integrity of the work does not depend on prior expectations of what it ought to be.
The sculpture reveals a stoic bearing – the ability to keep one's essence regardless of outward circumstances. Here wholeness is not tied to a flawless form, nor identity to the need to match a recognisable image.
"Steed" asks whether wholeness is defined by a predetermined form or by the very fact of being. Here bearing reveals itself as the ability to be oneself without needing to meet outside expectations.
Combination ideas
The sculpture suits an open, visually uncluttered space – a shelf niche, a console or a desk. Directional side lighting brings out the sculptural silhouette, the nuances of the surface and the gold accents. Occasion
