Culture Passport education “Sign of Self”

In 135 minutes each student creates their own sign in porcelain. Not a drawing, not a souvenir, but a symbol they take with them as an embodiment of personal values. Because a symbol holds transforming power once we consciously recognise it.

The education is intended for students in grades 9–12 and takes place either in a professional ceramics studio in Šiauliai or at your school.

How the session unfolds

It begins with questions of self-analysis drawn from personal experience. Participants reflect on their values, attitudes and worldview. Then, using a symbol analysis matrix created specifically for this programme, students form an individual sign – a personal symbol reflecting the core of their self-understanding.

This is not the pursuit of an artistic result but a creative process of meaning: the symbol is born not for aesthetic effect but out of authentic inner experience.

The work is done in porcelain with modelling tools and decorated with underglaze colours.

The link to Čiurlionis

The education is symbolically interwoven with the imperatives of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis’s creative legacy, as it seeks to convey the idea of the symbol as the language of the inner world in the life of a young person today. As in Čiurlionis’s work, so in this education the symbol becomes a means of expressing what cannot be said in words.

Why porcelain

Porcelain is no accidental material. It “does not allow haste” – it invites you to observe and to work together.

In the studio or at your school

At the art studio in Šiauliai · €10.00 per student · 10–22 students
Vilniaus st. 134. Students work in a real ceramics studio, among the tools and materials used there every day.

At your school · €11.00 per student · 20–30 students
I come with all the materials and tools. This suits a larger class, or when travelling to Šiauliai is inconvenient.

In both cases the education lasts 135 minutes. The starting time can be agreed in advance.
