About the work
"Listening" is an original small-scale sculpture, exploring a person's relationship with what lies beyond the limits of their own experience. The union of human and shell forms turns listening not into an action, but into the very form of the work.
History
Listening asks for more than the ability to hear. It is attention that requires stepping back from one's own convictions and making room for the other.
In the sculpture, the human figure and the form of a shell meet in a single body. Their union erases the usual boundary between the one who listens and what is being listened to. Here the relationship does not merely describe a person's state – it becomes an inseparable part of their form.
"Listening" speaks of the capacity to be open to what is not one's own, and of a relationship in which understanding begins with attention.
Combination ideas
The work suits a quiet, visually uncluttered space – a reading corner, a library or a study, where the sculpture can become an independent accent in the composition. Directional lighting brings out the spiral of the shell and the contrast between its glossy surfaces and the matte chamotte.
Occasion
A gift for someone who knows how to listen | A gift for a psychologist or counsellor | For a personal art collection
